These are some photos of one strange looking fish by which I called “Shrimp Fish” or “Ura Fish” (Solomon Pijin) found in the coastal sea of Marau Sound in a village called Marau’apa in the Solomon Islands, April 02, 2008.
The fish is about 1meter in length and weight approximately 4-5 KG and is found mainly outside the sea about 30-50 metres in depth.
According to the villagers this fish is rare to catch and is edible, the catch was cooked for the evening meal. The blog administrator has named this fish “Ura Fish” because of the shape of the fish .
The photos was taken by Nixon Aranani, who works as the Community Development Officer for Oxfam International during his tour to the Birao area in Marau for an ongoing assistance program to the village livehood project.
